Well once again the Hall of Fame voters have left Jim Rice at the alter. Rice fell about 12% short of the needed votes to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Much like Red Sox season’s, it looks like Rice will have to wait until next year. On the plus side for Jim Rice and Goose Gossage, there seems to be no compelling candidates, so both will get a better look, than in years past. Maybe the Red Sox can assist Rice in quest for Hall of Fame induction by retiring his number, as they should have done long ago.
Jim Rice is and was a class act and a great ambassador of the Red Sox and baseball in general. He played the game the way it was supposed to be played, and was a force for 10 season’s. His numbers declined sharply his last two seasons, but does that erase his dominace for over a decade. I think not, and hopefully the Hall of Fame voters decide what type of players will make up Cooperstown, before it is too late for this legendary player.
