The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Manny Ramirez has been suspended 50 games for a positive drug test.

Dodger star Manny Ramirez tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. The suspension will begin tonight and last until July 3.

The test result and suspension is expected to be announced later today. The Dodgers informed triple-A outfielder Xavier Paul this morning that he was being promoted to Los Angeles.

Ramirez is expected to attribute the test results to medication received from a doctor for a personal medical issue, according to a source familiar with matter but not authorized to speak publicly.

So Long Manny…..

Manny to LA Dodgers; Jason Bay to Red SoxIn a deadline deal that was eerily similar to the trading of Nomar Garciaparra, the Red Sox annouced after the 4pm EST trade deadline that indeed Manny Rameriz has been traded.  Though Red Sox Nation has known this day would eventually come, it still comes as a shock to the system.

Just how badly the Sox got rooked in this deal shows you thier disdain for his recent behavior.  It seemed Manny was waging a war or words against, well thin air it .  Manny’s recent comments seemed like a pre-planned drama, and the timing made little to no sense, except that it was near the trading deadline.  Maybe the fear of Boston picking up his option scared Manny to death, that and his chance for another big payday would be delayed.  Maybe Scott Boras motivated Manny’s behavior, after all if the Sox picked up Manny’s option, there would be no finacial windfall for Scott(Satan) Boras.

Whatever the case, Manny’s gone and he has left a wake of destruction that has cost the Red Sox seven million dollars and two young players.  In return they get a guy that has basically the same numbers as Manny, but no where near the same pedigree.  The hardest part of this deal for most of Red Sox Nation is watching Manny take his show on the road.  I have no doubt he will shut up and play well for Joe Torre and the L.A. Dodgers.  I am also sure we will have a great deal of heart burn watching baseball tonight highlights that include Manny being Manny.

The end result of this day is not yet known to us, only the baseball gods will determine ultimately how this story will be written.  For me todays events end the long strange trip that was Manny Rameriz.  That trip included two world championships and whole lot of homers, hits and r.b.i’s.  There were ups and down to this marriage that was Manny Rameriz, however like with Pedro and Nomar before him, I will choose to remember the good times that were Manny being Manny.

Manny’s World……

Despite his recent struggles, the fans serenaded Manny Ramirez with a standing ovation as he came to the plate in the eighth inning and he responded with an RBI single scoring Dustin Pedroia with the game's lone run. Stroll through our gallery to see more scenes from Monday's 1-0 win over the Twins. So I am not quite sure what the latest flap is over Manny’s comments regarding his impending future with the Boston Red Sox.  Manny like most aging players would like to know that thier final payday is secure.  I think there is nothing wrong with that, everyone has to look out for whats best for them.

It’s not like Manny’s concerns are unfounded either.  In his time with the Sox, Manny has seem them come and go.  This current group of Red Sox brass has not exactly handled free agency with flying colors.  Two big name stars that made big time contributions in thier time in a Red Sox uniform, were told one thing, and an entirely different thing occured.  The end result, was that one of those free agents went to the New York Yankees( Johnny Damon), and the other (Pedro Martinez), went to the New York Mets.  Of course both times a war of words occured and it was media firestorm of he said, he said.

John Henry can act offended if he wants to, however he has been as guilty as anyone in the Red Sox front office for the mis-handling of Red Sox free agents.  The “record” is littered with comments made by Red Sox brass concerning upcoming Red Sox free agents.  This is being portrayed as another episode of Manny being Manny, however this is more like Manny looking out for Manny.

Another Manny Moment……….

During a sixth inning pitching change, when Red Sox starting pitcher Josh Beckett was removed from the game, Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez went inside the Green Monster, and was seen smiling and apparently talking on someone's cellphone.

Its been quite a month or so for Manny Rameriz…first the high fiving of the fan in Baltimore while making a double play…then his 500th homer…then the shoving of the Red Sox Traveling Secretary for not accomodating his ticket request….then a prolonged slump where Manny could not find water if he fell out of a boat.  Now this picture from yesterday’s game surfaces where Manny is in the Monstah…making a call during the game….for the record it was a pitching change….MANNY BEING MANNY NEVER GETS OLD…..
