Master-Full Patriots Day…..

Well there are a few things Red Sox manager knows how to do, and things he doesn’t know how to do.  First off, Francona doesn’t  know how or what losing a World Series game feels like, he is 8-0 in the Big Dance.  Second, Francona doesn’t know how to lose on Patriots Day, as he now runs his record to 6-0.  Lets hope he can continue both streaks.
The Sox were left with a hole in thier rotation thanks to Dice-k and his MVP performance for the WBC.  This would be problematic for alot of teams, not the Sox, the only problem was which option to go with.  The Sox picked the right option today in Justin Masterson.  Masterson was brilliant today going 5 1/3 innings, throwing a very economical 84 pitches.  He was only tagged for one run, both came in the 5th, on two infield singles.  For the day, Masterson allowed only four hits and two walks, while striking out three.  His sinker was working today, as he also had two double plays behind him.  Not bad for a kid that was in the bullpen this time last week.  Maybe with his extra time off this week Masterson can give Chen Ming Wang some tips on how to throw a good sinkerball.
The bullpen also continued to hurl up zero’s on the scoreboard today as well.  The bullpen’s line today, 3 2/3 innings pitched, one hit, one walk and one base on ball, and ZERO earned runs.  Although Javier Lopez tried his best to blow that streak, however even he managed a zero inning as well.  Though I am not sold on him when it counts, I will give Manny Delcarmen some props today.  He pitched in the 6th when the issue was still in doubt, and pitched very well, especially after his defense botched a double play.  Manny got out of the inning, throwing the same pitch to the next batter, getting the right results from his defense the next time.
What can you say about the offense today, a season high 12 runs on another season high 15 hits.  Every Red Sox hitter that played more than five innings had a hit, and most of them had multi-hits, even Big Papi had two hits, one of them a TRIPLE.  Dustin Pedoria had his first of many four hit games this season, and lead-off boy Jacoby Ellsbury managed to get on base three times as well, scoring all three times.  Hopefully the output by the Sox offense these last few days will be a sign of things to come and not an abberation.  With the pitching the Sox have, thier offense does not need to great, but it does need to be average.
Here’s to five wins in a row…..here’s hoping for five more in a row….

Is there a better holiday out there ?  For those of us not from New England, I guess there is, however it is a great rite of spring passage holiday.

Last year I was lucky enough to be in Boston for all four games during Patriots Day weekend.  Of course the Sox swept the series versus the Texas Rangers, a feat I hope is duplicated today.  The game will feature an 11am start time, so don’t forget to take that early lunch ….that may of course last a few hours.

The Sox have Justin Masterson on the hill today in place of pile o crap Dice K, and the O’s will counter with lefty Mark Hendrickson.  For the Sox, they are trying to win thier 5th straight, and get over the .500 for the first time since opening day, when they were 1-0.
